This book presents the application of new techniques in analyzing truss and frame structures. The book contains two main sections: Numerical Analysis of Structures and Mass-Saving in Structures. Under each section, different approaches on the topic are given. Covered in these sections are dynamic stability analysis, design optimization considering vibration, FEM analysis, topology optimization methods, and recommendations to build lightweight structures. It is believed that this book will be helpful to its readers for new perspectives on the analysis of structures.

This Open-Access book investigates corporate diplomacy as a legitimation strategy of multinational companies in the United Arab Emirates. The author applies a neo-institutional public relations perspective, according to which societal expectations significantly shape corporate diplomacy communication. Using a multi-method research design, the author shows how corporate diplomacy is used in the host country, what role local media coverage and relationship management fulfill, and what effects corporate diplomacy has on corporate legitimacy in the host country community, i.e., UAE residents. The findings provide substantial insights into how multinational corporations seek legitimacy through corporate diplomacy and demonstrate how these efforts and the legitimation of corporations are affected by the media and the host country's public.

Lateinamerika kennt zahlreiche Protestbewegungen seiner indigenen Bevölkerung.

"This free e-book is published by KIK-IRPA, the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage in Brussels, and written by scholar Hélène Verougstraete. Offering 700 images and 1500 diagrams, the book is an updated study based on the author's 1989 doctoral thesis, which was prepared in French with black and white pictures. The new version has been fully translated into English and contains expanded research with crisp full-color illustrations and a searchable, zoomable interface."--Online publisher's description.

News Framing Effects is a guide to framing effects theory, one of the most prominent theories in media and communication science. Rooted in both psychology and sociology, framing effects theory describes the ability of news media to influence people’s attitudes and behaviors by subtle changes to how they report on an issue. The book gives expert commentary on this complex theoretical notion alongside practical instruction on how to apply it to research. The book’s structure mirrors the steps a scholar might take to design a framing study. The first chapter establishes a working definition of news framing effects theory. The following chapters focus on how to identify the independent variable (i.e., the "news frame") and the dependent variable (i.e., the "framing effect") The book then considers the potential limits or enhancements of the proposed effects (i.e., the "moderators") and how framing effects might emerge (i.e., the "mediators") Finally, it asks how strong these effects are likely to be. The final chapter considers news framing research in the light of a rapidly and fundamentally changing news and information market, in which technologies, platforms, and changing consumption patterns are forcing assumptions at the core of framing effects theory to be re-evaluated.

The construction sector alone accounts for 40 percent of resource consumption and environmental pollution. In line with the current considerations on environmental sustainability, particular attention is paid to eco-sustainable building materials such as timber. Timber is able to perform both load-bearing and comfort constructive functions. It is also a natural, renewable and recyclable material. However, its use as an engineering material calls for constant development and research. This book provides insight into the spread of the use of timber in the construction industry, presenting some thoughts on important aspects related to production, design and responsible use.

"Purpose – This master thesis examines the influence of political framing by the German party ‘Alternative für Deutschland’ (AfD) on the medial debate as a contemporary issue.Approach – Based on the concept of framing, public broadcast talk shows about the German regional elections in autumn 2019 were analysed regarding their handling of strategic political frames. By comparing the results of this content analysis with a subsequent examination of follow-up communication among selected key online-media, conclusions about the influence of political framing on the medial debate were drawn.Findings – In accordance with the findings, a distinctive transfer of strategic framing is delivered throughout the analysed media coverage, focussing on the polarising issue of how to politically classify the AfD.Practical Implications – The ascertained orientation in journalistic framing was criticised and recommendations towards a recollection of journalistic standards were given."

"Much of framing scholarship focuses either exclusively on the analysis of words or of visuals. This book aims to address this gap by proposing a six-step approach to the analysis of verbal frames, visual frames and the interplay between them--an integrative framing analysis. This approach is then demonstrated through a study investigating the way words and visuals are used to frame people living with HIV/AIDS in various communication contexts: the news, public service announcements and special interest publications. This application of integrative framing analysis reveals differences between verbal frames and visual frames in the same messages, underscoring the importance of looking at these frames together. This book analyses the portrayal of nuclear power in Japanese journalism and the factors that influence it. Combining a field theoretical approach to journalism with frame analysis on different levels of the communication process, the author argues that the nuclear industry in Japan used its financial power to form a ‘pro-nuclear civil society’ and that this frame sponsorship is the reason for the relatively positive portrayal of nuclear power in Japan until 2011. After ‘Fukushima’, journalistic autonomy in this domain increased and journalism became a driving force of change in nuclear policy. At the same time, the field of journalism became polarised because its more heteronomous parts remained integrated into the ‘pro-nuclear civil society’. This book offers a new perspective on the Japanese media and journalism in Japan, emphasising heterogeneity and change in contrast to previous research, which focused on press clubs as institutions of pervasive media control.

Throughout this book, the concept of framing is used to look at art, photography, scientific drawings and cinema as visually constituted, spatially bounded productions. The way these genres relate to that which exists beyond the frame, by means of plastic, chemically transposed, pencil-sketched or moving images allows us to decipher the particular language of the visual and at the same time circumscribe the dialectic between presence and absence that is proper to all visual media. Yet, these kinds of re-framing owe their existence to the ruptures and upheavals that marked the demise of certain discursive systems in the past, announcing the emergence of others that were in turn overturned.
